Toulene Di-Isocyanate

TDI is a clear, almost colourless, low viscous liquid with a characteristic pungent smell. It is extremely toxic and must be handled with care.

Toluene Di Isocyanate (TDI) provides the N=C=O groups that react with Polyol in the polymerization to form urethane. It also reacts with water in the gas formation reaction to form CO2 which helps in foam rise. TDI reacts with cross linkers if in formulation to increase foam hardness.

TDI comes in two isomers namely 2,4 and 2,6 isomers. The ratio of the 2,4 to 2,6 isomer controls the reactivity and reaction characteristics of the TDI.
The ratio available are the 80-20 and 65-35.
The following grades are available;
• Lupranate 80/20 (A high purity TDI grade from Bayer)
• Orinate 80-20 (A very reactive TDI from Korean Fine Chemicals KFC)
